Point Of View
Over all, hydraulic jacks are used for heavy equipment vehicles so it is for heavy equipment operation. Though it can still be use for general sizes of cars. The Powerzone 380044 is a good choice actually, for it is used as heavy duty jack. Still, read thoroughly and know more about the product. If it fits you, then it’s definitely for you.
Edit: I had the jack for about 3 weeks, used it to lift my friends Honda CRV, not a heavy car by any means. I was left with my jack bleeding oil all across the pavement. The jack still worked as I describe below, held the car up for lengthy amounts of time along with jack stands, and didn’t fail otherwise. Amazon sent UPS the next day to pick up the jack and the new one is on its way. I’m sure it was just a manufacturer defect. I will post more later, but the 5 star rating is staying unless this happens again. 5/9/13
Edit 2: The new jack arrived promptly and has been working great for over a year now. No leaks, no issues. I think the first jack was just defective. Amazon is always quick to fix any errors, and my new jack is always happy to raise up cars. Keeping the 5 star rating. Overall, a well worth it purchase. 9/3/14
Edit 3: I have now added a crossbeam adapter to this jack. It is basically a steel tube with two jack pads that can be raised or lowered. What this does it increase the lift range by about 8 inches, and lift from two different points at once (say the side of the car, or the rear axle). I did have to modify the cross beam to fit the hole in the jack, but it works fine now. I bought this at Harbor Freight Tools for $30 after 25% coupon. 11/10/14
This jack is pretty amazing. I’m just a home mechanic that does his own auto work instead of feeding money to the local shops that tend to overcharge and provide sub par work. By this, I mean some shops that do oil changes have been lazy and forgotten to tighten the drain plug, so I got home and nearly blew my engine since it was out of oil. Last time I do that for the special $20 rate.
THis jack is well made with nicer features than most competitive jacks. Raises heavy loads quickly & easily. The twist release handle saves fumbling around trying to position a handle on a separate release valve. THe ability to leave the handle in a vertical position saves working & storage space in cramped quarters. Lifts throughout the entire stroke range, allowing small height adjustments.
Usage Of Hydraulic Jacks On Vehicles
Hydraulic jacks work very efficiently and are available in different types. Everybody nowadays keeps a jack in the boot of their vehicle in case of an emergency. You never know when you might have an accident or any unfortunate incident that may interrupt your journey? If you are equipped with the required tools then you don’t have to worry even if there is no garage nearby.
Most of us have had to change a tyre at some stage or maybe you have needed to get underneath the car to see if there is a problem with it. The most important thing to remember is that you must ensure that you are using hydraulic jacks properly; you can refer to the user manual that is given to you with the vehicle when you purchased it.
Some damages to your car may pertain to the underneath parts of the car. So, it is obvious that you cannot repair it until and unless, it is visible. This is the time that hydraulic jacks justify their role in society. These tools are simply placed underneath the car and using the lever on it, the car is raised to a certain height. This will enable you to see whether there is any issue with the base of the car, and whether you can repair it.
It is a fact that not everybody may be aware of its functioning but it is necessary to learn how to utilise your hydraulic jack. It will be advised that the users gain all the information regarding these tools so that they don’t have to panic in the case of an emergency. They will be able to fix the issues with the car and continue on their journey. The toolbox of the vehicle must essentially have one of these hydraulic jacks. You will always be ready with the solution if you possess these tools.
Hydraulic jacks depend on force generated by pressure. Essentially, if two cylinders (a large and a small one) are connected and force is applied to one cylinder, equal pressure is generated in both cylinders. However, because one cylinder has a larger area, the force the larger cylinder produces will be higher, although the pressure in the two cylinders will remain the same. Hydraulic jacks depend on this basic principle to lift heavy loads: they use pump plungers to move oil through two cylinders. The plunger is first drawn back, which opens the suction valve ball within and draws oil into the pump chamber. As the plunger is pushed forward, the oil moves through an external discharge check valve into the cylinder chamber, and the suction valve closes, which results in pressure building within the cylinder.
Types of Hydraulic Valves
Two common types of hydraulic jacks include bottle jacks and floor jacks.
· Bottle Jacks
Bottle jacks became popular in the early 1900s when the automobile industry began to take off. Also called hand jacks, bottle jacks provided an easy way for an individual to lift up a vehicle for roadside inspection or service. Their resemblance to milk bottles earned bottle jacks their name—today, they range in size and weight to offer a lifting capability ranging from one hundred to several tons. Bottle jacks feature a vertical shaft, which supports a platform (called a bearing pad) that directly bears the weight of the object as it is lifted.
Although they are most commonly used in the automobile industry (1.5 to 5 ton jacks are frequently used to lift cars), bottle jacks have other uses as well. In the medical industry they can be used in hydraulic stretchers and patient lifts. In industrial applications, they can be found as pipe benders used in plumbing, as cable slicers for electrical projects, and as material lifts within warehouses. Their ability to lift heavy loads plays a big role in enabling the repair of large agricultural machinery and in many construction operations. Bottle jacks can be secured within a frame, mounted on a beam, or simply used as they are for easier jack transportation.
· Floor Jacks
Unlike bottle jack shafts, the shaft in a floor jacks is horizontal—the shaft pushes on a crank that connects to a lifting pad, which is then lifted horizontally. Floor jacks typically provide a greater range of vertical lift than bottle jacks, and are available in two sizes. The original jack is about four feet long, a foot wide, and weights around 200 pounds—they can lift 4-10 tons. A more compact model was later made, which is about three feet in length, and can lift 11/2 tons. Although “mini jacks” are also produced, they are not a recognized standard type of floor jack. Typically, one of the first two sizes should be used.
Hydraulic Jack’s Variety Of Usage
Hydraulic jack and cylinders are the most commonly used in heavy industry and power equipment that require tremendous power to operate. You can find these hydraulic jacks in all types of heavy machinery and vehicles such as excavators, forklifts, elevators and excavators etc. These hydraulic cylinders are also found in household appliances and door frames, cars, motorcycles, etc. and other it became clear that these hydraulic jack provide a lot more functionality in terms of comfort and ease. In the operation of a hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic jack design has an important role. If you have a business which involves loading and unloading heavy parts, one can understand the importance of these hydraulic cylinders with ease. An effective hydraulic environment can do much work for you. A simple example is the car of the hydraulic jack that uses a hydraulic manipulation of the back door of his car.
Nowadays, you can also find the hydraulic brakes for motorcycles, for a number of forces to the brake pedal, which leads to a breakdown effectively. Today, two-cylinder and the slave of modern cars made of cylinders, the other takes over. This ensures greater safety of modern cars.
The hydraulic jacks are typically used for heavy loads of life in industrial processes. These connectors are used to lift cars, while replacing the flat tire. This type of jack is known as Car Jack, Floor Jack, or Garage Jack. The hydraulic jacks are also used in cranes to lift heavy loads. Some cranes are equipped with multiple takes that are designed for additional functionality.
Each company has different needs, so that the hydraulic jack can be used as needed basis. You should always consult an expert, while the installation of these connectors as proper installation of the plug will give you the desired results.
Even if you install a hydraulic piston must always consider the requirement and the available space. The installation must be such that it does not consume much space, when the industry meets the full requirement as well.
